The Delegate of Culture, Antonio Vélez, intervened in the presentation of the 13th edition of the film series "Verano de Cine," which is part of this year’s Mérida festival programming, emphasizing the commitment to outdoor cinema at the Foro Emeritense. Vélez appreciated the unique experience of "Story and Story," with the screening of eight features in July and August.
The event, known as "Cinema Aestas," is an initiative within the 71st edition of the International Festival of Classical Theater of Mérida, aimed at disseminating classical culture through cinema. Vélez, along with the Festival Director, Jesús Cimarro, and Ángel Briz Rueda, the communication head, highlighted the event’s commitment to expanding culture in different parts of the city through elements such as Romanian theatrical scenes, dance, music, and words. This activity is open to the public every Monday from August 7th to 25th at the iconic porch of the Foro Emeritense.
Vélez praised the festival’s comprehensive program that includes various activities across the city during the summer season, recognizing the dedication of Mérida’s festival to involving local actors, young talents, and businesses. The cultural advisor also mentioned the collaboration with the Mérida Club de Club, an association that, in conjunction with the festival, will showcase eight internationally recognized films, including the documentary "The Alchemist’s Dance" filmed at the Romanian Theater during the 68th edition.
Moreover, Vélez emphasized the unique experience of "Story and Story" in an open space, bringing back the concept of "sentimental territory" through outdoor cinema at the pórtico forum to engage with the citizens. This initiative, deemed successful, also extends to screenings at the Seven Chairs Park in the capital of Extremadura.
