The Plasencia City Council has definitively awarded the first contract for the comprehensive renovation of the city’s playgrounds, following a lengthy judicial process that has blocked the start of these works for over two years. This announcement was made this morning by the mayor, Fernando Pizarro, accompanied by the Works Councillor, María Teresa Díaz, and the representative of the winning company, Bosque Urbano, Jorge Vega, at a press conference held at the town hall.
Background of the Project
The process of awarding this contract has been fraught with challenges, with several attempts made before receiving the latest favorable report from the Legal Commission of Extremadura, which sided with the City Council, allowing the project to move forward.
Scope of the Renovation Project
The initial phase of this project will primarily focus on the La Coronación Park, the most heavily used playground in the city, and will also include improvements to areas of La Isla Park. The main goal is to modernize and adapt the playground spaces, with a strong emphasis on safety and accessibility.
Innovative Solutions by Bosque Urbano
The winning company, Bosque Urbano, which hails from Plasencia and boasts extensive experience in the field, will replace the current rubber flooring with surfaces made of cushioned artificial grass, anticipating the upcoming European regulations that will ban the use of granulated rubber from 2030.
Inclusive and Safe Playgrounds
The aim is to create inclusive and safe playgrounds that cater to children with diverse needs. There will be accessible areas for children with disabilities, featuring adapted games and spacious pathways suitable for wheelchairs. Jorge Vega mentioned that the project has a timeline of six months for completion, with efforts to finish earlier, taking advantage of the summer months.
Comprehensive Strategy for Playground Revamp
This initial phase is part of an overarching strategy conceived two years ago to revamp, merge, or rehabilitate playground areas, avoiding the proliferation of small, closely located parks, and instead, focusing on larger, secure, and efficient spaces.
Phased Execution and Budget
The City Council estimates that the first two phases of this renovation project could be completed by the end of the year, with funding allocated from the current budgets. The third phase is currently undergoing administrative definition, while the fourth phase is scheduled for implementation from 2026 onwards, with a total planned investment of one million euros.
Future Plans and Investment
The Council is committed to enhancing the quality of public spaces for children in Plasencia and ensuring that the playgrounds meet the highest standards of safety and accessibility. The project reflects a long-term vision for creating vibrant and inclusive recreational areas for the community.
In conclusion, the renovation of the city’s playgrounds marks a significant step towards providing children with modern, safe, and inclusive spaces to play and interact. The commitment to quality, safety, and accessibility underscores the City Council’s dedication to improving the overall well-being and quality of life for residents and visitors alike. With Bosque Urbano leading the way with innovative solutions, the future looks bright for the playgrounds of Plasencia.
