Visita del Ministro de Transporte y el Alcalde a la N630 en Mérida, donde se invirtieron 2.5 millones de euros.

  • It is an infrastructure that allows four lanes of four lanes of Felipe VI (Former N630), with bike lanes, new urban furniture, and signage
  • «In Mérida, the government invests more than 100 million euros in the most necessary and historical investments for the capital of Extremadura,» said the mayor.
  • Óscar Puente arrived at the Adif station in Mérida by Ave, especially on a 106 Ave Talgo that reached 303 kilometers per hour

The N630 that runs through Mérida to turn it into a large boulevard is now a reality. The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, visited today the completion of these works on the N-630 section as it passes through Mérida. The Minister supervised the progress of the actions carried out by the Government of Spain, accompanied by the mayor, Antonio Rodríguez de Osuna, and the Government of Badajoz, María Isabel Cortés Gordillo, as well as several advisers from the government team.

«It is a work that we have been waiting for for years, and the people of Mérida for decades, and that responds to a historical request from the city made possible due to the funding from the Government of Spain,» says Rodríguez Osuna.

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (MITMA) has granted a sum of 2.45 million euros (including VAT) for the works on the northern access to Mérida between KM 618.930 and 619.550 of the N-630 road, the former N630.

«It was a complete transformation from the university of Josefinas to the entrance to Cáceres with which we achieve a deployment that this road deserves,» says the mayor. This project meant humanization and traffic calming on the north side of the N-630 intersection, aiming for integration into Mérida’s urban fabric.

«We have experienced periods of reproaches between administrations for five years to see who had to make this investment, and finally, the government of Spain carried out and completed this important work in the city,» said Rodríguez Osuna. – «In Mérida, the government invests more than 100 million euros in the most necessary and historical investments for the capital of Extremadura,» emphasized the mayor.

In the project, actions were defined such as road duplication, sidewalks, median strips, and bike lanes (over 800 meters), the reorganization of the existing access, the replacement and implementation of lighting, signage elements, and guardrails. Additionally, the rest of the complementary works to the previous ones were included, which will be carried out in the intermediate section of the N-630 as it passes through the urban core of Mérida. «Residents passed here near a canal, without security, we have completed the urban section and created a four-lane road that improves lighting and urban furniture,» said the minister.

All this to improve its functionality and road safety, adapting it to the significant urban environment in which it is located and providing a homogeneous treatment for the entire northern access to Mérida, thus completing its transformation into a multi-type road.

This intervention is included in the recovery plan, within the humanization program. The project aims to integrate into the municipal urban plot of Mérida.

Arrival

Óscar Puente arrived in Mérida by Ave, especially on a 106 Ave Talgo that reached 303 kilometers per hour, in what was a test to certify the electrification of the road and the corresponding width for its use in the Extremadura capital. – «Extremadura and Mérida have experienced an absolute abandonment in communication investments since 2017,» highlighted the Minister of Transport.

Puente recalled that until a year ago, the railway was not electrified, so the Ave access that arrived in the city today could not be operational. In the last years of President Pedro Sánchez’s government, they «have invested 1.9 billion euros in Extremadura’s railway infrastructure.»

The minister was welcomed at the ADIF station in Mérida by the mayor, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna, and the Urbanism delegate, Silvia Fernández. Together, they visited the progress of the new bridge construction that will cross Albarregas and allow high-speed width in that section.

Work is underway for the duplication and renovation of the road between the Mérida and Aljucner stations (5.5 km), awarded 27.1 million euros.

This action, which will develop the construction of the Company’s tracks, will provide greater performance, capacity, and reliability for this section. In addition to incorporating new road materials – sleepers, bands, and ballast, the electrification will be adapted to the new track configuration, drainage systems will be renewed and extended, and carcasses will be incorporated along the route, enhancing safety conditions. In the section between the west of the Mérida station and the east head of the Aljucén station, Adif AV will expand the platform to accommodate a second parallel with the current one. To cross the Albárregas River, a new viaduct with a wider width will be built to replace the current one.

Furthermore, the layout parameters on four curves will be improved through new variants, increasing the speed passing through these points and the comfort of passengers. The project includes a new underpass crossing Emerita Augusta Avenue in the urban center of Mérida, which will replace the two current structures; and conditioning actions in two lower steps.
