  • José Ángel Calle emphasized that pride «is the party that includes, without excluding anyone, everyone and those who believe in human rights. And human rights are practiced in our neighborhoods, on our streets, in our country, in our region.»
  • The program will conclude on June 28th with the demonstration and the grand party at Paseo de Roma, featuring performances by Falete, Isabel Aaiún, Sofia Cristo, and «Wonderful 90.»

With the raising of the flag and the proclamation by Bob Pop, Lgtbiqq+ Pride of Extremadura is organized in the city of Mérida with the collaboration of Extremadura Understands, Triángulo Foundation, Buceador, and Don Benito Mândru.

LGTBI Diversity Delegate José Ángel Calle, accompanied by group representatives, announced this morning the program that will culminate on June 28th with the demonstration and the grand party at Paseo de Roma featuring performances by Falete, Isabel Aaiún, Sofia Christos, and «those wonderful 90s.»

Calle stated that for the city of Mérida, «Today is a day of joy, because we fill this headquarters with people who make our city much better. We fill this headquarters with people in our region who make a region increasingly egalitarian, despite the times we are in.»

He highlighted the financial support from the Diputación de Badajoz, who, for the first time, is joining the 2025 pride celebrations, a gesture that Calle particularly appreciated.

Regarding the program, he emphasized that it is a program «that has never been developed with such enthusiasm and has not brought together so many groups until this year. Many individuals from Mérida, those who work with youth, many people from other cities in the region come to build their pride.»

He pointed out that pride «is the party that has included, without exclusion, everyone, all those who believe in human rights. And human rights are practiced in our neighborhoods, on our streets, in our country, in our region. In other countries around the world, where the community is still the target of serious and severe attacks, of illegalities, even of death, even of death.»

President of the Triángulo Extremadura Foundation, Silvia Tostado, explained that «the LGBTI organizations in Extremadura are convening the LGBTI pride demonstration in the city of Mérida that we have chosen this year» to defend human rights, which is our pride.

She recalled that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the LGBTI law. Support that we must fully develop.

From Extremadura’s side, Raquel Saovedra emphasized the pride in participating «in this diverse, creative program and, especially, dedicated to the rights of LGTBI1+ because in June we not only celebrate but also demand.»

On his part, David Luceño, from Diveer Ceres, explained that their group was born «4 years ago, with the intention of creating safe spaces in the world of sports for the LGBTI group, not only to work in the world of sports but also in the world of LGBTI activism in Mérida.»

Finally, Calle recalled the commitment of the local diversity council «We increased the budget by 100% compared to the previous year, 100%. And not only that, but we showed financial management and solvency.»

He stressed that for the city of Mérida, «LGBTIQ+ diversity in this municipal council is a serious policy, not a secondary one.»
