Under-17 football teams from Spain, Norway, Germany, and Austria are participating in the UEFA Elite Round and will host three games at the Roman José Fouto stadium on March 19, 22, and 25.
Sports delegate Toni Marín took part in the presentation of this competition today with Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Victoria Bazaga, and mayor Almendrajo, José María Ramírez.
«Mérida is proud to host this championship; We hope the teams enjoy the city,» says the sports delegate, adding that «the sporting level of this championship is of significant importance because these will be players expected to represent us in the next World Cup in 2026.»
The UEFA U-17 Elite Round, a qualifying tournament for the European category, will play three matches at the Roman José Fouto stadium. Spain acts as the host in Group A2 and will face Norway on March 19 and Germany at the Francisco in Hera de Almendralejo Stadium, and play the third match against Austria at the Roman stadium in Mérida.
The Elite Round is the competition that will determine which seven teams will accompany the host in the final phase of the U-17 European Championship, which will take place this year in Albania, from May 19 to May 1. For the organization of the tournament, the Royal Extremedura Football Federation has the support and collaboration of the Municipal Council.
